Our story

Care built on experience, driven by compassion.

Autumn House was created by Sara and Danielle, two former NHS nurses who spent their careers caring for people at their most vulnerable. Along the way, they saw how often individuals and families were let down by care that lacked time, compassion and understanding. That experience led them to create NUcare, with a simple aim: to do better.

As NUcare grew, so did their vision. Autumn House was developed as a natural next step, a safe, comfortable and truly homely place for those who can no longer live alone, but still deserve to feel valued, supported and at home every single day.

Today, Autumn House is proudly part of the NUcare Group, providing trusted residential care at the heart of the Barnsley community.

Sara Greenwood

Sara has 16 years of experience in the care sector, including 12 years as a qualified nurse. Her clinical background spans respiratory care, intensive care and general medicine, and she brings that expertise into every aspect of how Autumn House is run. Sara takes a hands-on approach to leadership, ensuring every resident receives thoughtful, consistent and compassionate support.

Danielle Shimwell

Registered Nurse & Nominated Individual

Danielle brings 14 years of care experience to the organisation, including 8 years as a qualified nurse and 2 years as a Ward Sister within the NHS. She has a strong foundation across domiciliary care, care homes, mental health units and NHS wards. Danielle leads on governance, quality and standards across the service, ensuring families feel confident, informed and supported at every stage.

Lynsey Walker

Meet Lynsey, our Registered Manager at Autumn House. With over a decade of experience in social care, Lynsey brings a wealth of knowledge, compassionate leadership, and a genuine commitment to delivering exceptional person-centred care.

Starting her journey in 2012 as a Care Assistant, Lynsey progressed through senior and management roles before becoming a Registered Manager. Her hands-on approach, dedication to quality, and passion for supporting both residents and staff have been recognised through award nominations and consistently positive feedback from commissioners.

Lynsey believes in leading by example and creating a warm, respectful, and supportive environment where every individual feels valued. Lynsey is focused on building a caring culture from day one and ensuring every resident receives outstanding care tailored to their needs.

Sam Wagstaff

Introducing Sam, Deputy Manager at Autumn House. With an impressive 32 years of experience in the care sector, Sam brings a wealth of knowledge, dedication, and compassionate leadership to our team.

Sam began her career in care at just 16 years old and has progressed through a variety of roles, including Carer, Senior Carer, Head of Care, and now Deputy Manager. Her extensive experience has given her a deep understanding of delivering high-quality, person-centred care and supporting teams to achieve the very best outcomes.

In recognition of her commitment and excellence in care, Sam received the Best of Barnsley Award for Dementia Care in 2020. She also holds a Level 4 qualification in Health & Safety Management and has played an active role in service improvement and regulatory compliance throughout her career.

Sam is passionate about creating a supportive, safe, and welcoming environment where residents feel valued and colleagues feel empowered. As part of the leadership team at Autumn House, she is committed to helping shape a culture of kindness, dignity, and exceptional care from day one.
